Cable splice - Bill of materials
Equipment required to make a splice on an electromechanical cable.
Bill of materials
The procedure requires preparing the insulating consumables, mechanical parts and test equipment in advance. Good preparation avoids leaving the cable open for too long and reduces the risk of incorrect assembly.
Insulation and protection
- 3M
Scotchfil - 3M
Scotch 23 - 3M
Scotch 33+ - heat-shrink tubing
- heat-shrink tubing with resin or internal adhesive
Mechanical load transfer
- claw-type cable grips, for example Simel type
- stainless steel bolts and nuts, sizes 6 and 10
- cable grip socket adapted to the cable diameter
- shackle or fastening system adapted to the CTD rosette frame
Soldering and preparation
- thermostatically controlled soldering iron with a tip larger than
2.5 mm - soldering paste
- about
50 mlof sulfuric acid diluted to10 % - petroleum ether or degreaser
- heat-shrink tubing for the conductors
Cutting and assembly
- knife or cutter
- cutting pliers suitable for the cable strands
- heat gun
- angle grinder with cutting disc
- vise
- locking pliers
Electrical checks
- voltmeter
- insulation tester or megohmmeter
